We are studying ancient world history in school this year. With that naturally comes learning the geography of the people studied. So far we have mainly been limited to northern Africa and southwestern Asia.
We have maps and globes all over the house and Parker enjoys knowing the location of countries, seas and rivers. He passed my knowledge base quite a while ago and I am trying to keep up.
But all this is background. Caroline has learned a bit about continents and countries by listening to Parker and I as we read and discuss. She realized a few weeks ago that these continent and country names represented places that different people live. So she began to quiz me. Who do we know in Asia? Europe? Mexico? etc...
Until she came to America. "Mommy? Who do we know that lives in America?" she asked. I grinned and said "We do." "No." she said. "Like on the globe." "Who lives in America?" I again replied "Caroline. We live in America. Right here on the globe." And I point to the appropriate spot.
Her eyes widened and she smiled. " Wow!" she said. "We live in America? That's great!"
