A Special Birthday Surprise

I had a birthday a few weeks ago. These days, that in itself is not really a momentous occasion. This birthday was special though.

(I do realize that sweet & tender moments are few and far between on this site. This is one. Enjoy!)

As I said, I had a birthday. We had family in town and went to big, yummy, festive dinner (restaurant week, but it sounds good to say it was all for me) and altogether had a very enjoyable weekend. And then the unexpected really special part started.

Let's back up. Shall we?

Parker had told me the week before my that he had planned something special for my birthday. It was a surprise, I was told, but he wanted to know when he could show me. I suggested when everyone was here and he said "No." This was just for our immediate family because he had only made "supplies" for four people.

Well that piqued my curiosity but he said nothing else. I suggested Sunday night and told him to talk to Daddy for scheduling.

Sunday night it was. All weekend he hinted to me of what was to come. He was fairly bubbling up with anticipation and excitement twinkled in his eyes. But patiently he waited. Sneaking Cheshire Cat grins at me across the noisy lunch table.

We waved goodbye to our company and he dashed for his room. "Nobody come in! I'm getting ready for the party!" He shouted through the hastily closed door.

A bit later, the door opened and he welcomed us in. Totally cool! He had created a carnival type party, complete with multiple games & prizes...even a piņata...all made from paper and tape. Lots of paper and tape. Lots and lots of paper and tape. (And his dart board and other props) I could tell he had spent hours and hours devising and creating and implementing his plan. It was well and carefully thought out and done. He proudly led us through the evening's activities. We cheered each other on and laughed. When it was all over he helped us exchange our tickets for prizes. (tiny space shuttles made of cardboard...Endeavor, Discovery and Atlantis to be specific...among other things)

It was a perfect birthday.

That is so very cool. Give Parker an "atta boy" for me. Also, is he available in February? Happy Perfect (and belated) Birthday to you!
